A product created by a monk

Known for relieving muscle, joint and back pain, particularly sciatica pain, this traditional plant-based recipe has been passed down for more than a century.

In June 1918, the Battle of the Piave River was raging in northern Italy. During this offensive by the Austro-Hungarian army, a monk, who was chaplain to the Italian troops, died in the arms of Ernesto Rossi, an Italian Marshal.

Before breathing his last, this monk gave him the recipe for a natural product to soothe muscle, joint and back pain and sciatica pain. He asked Ernesto to pass this recipe on to help people suffering from these ailments.

Back in his native Umbria, Ernesto began to produce the formula which the monk had shared with him, using rosemary, juniper and wine. In his makeshift laboratory, he developed his philosophy: “Everything is within us and all around us.” Committed to the idea of a harmonious balance between people and the natural world, long before the advent of the environmental movement, he condemned mankind’s responsibility for the damage inflicted on the planet.

And for over 100 years, the traditional recipe has been handed down from generation to generation, from father to son. Today, Ernesto’s grandson, who is in his 80s, continues to prepare it by hand. Created by the alchemy of water, rock and earth, this gel draws people who want to take advantage of its benefits to Umbria, Italy’s green lung.
